De-restoration and Re-restoration of a 20th-Century Pottery Jar (Kabylie Region)

This thesis focuses on the de-restoration and re-restoration of a pottery jar, highlighting the specific challenges associated with the conservation and restoration of ancient ceramic objects. The work is structured around:

• The study of pottery, its components, its manufacturing process, its changes over time, and the factors contributing to its deterioration.
• A presentation of the object and its historical context.
• A detailed assessment is conducted to determine the causes of this deterioration; it proposes a comprehensive methodology for the de-restoration and re-restoration of the jar, including cleaning, the reintegration of fragments, the treatment of cracks, and the stabilization of the object.
• Restoration techniques are selected in accordance with the principles of reversibility and long-term conservation.
